Bettendorf Fire Department now fully staffed after switch from volunteers

The department started providing 24 hour services after a community push for additional assistance.

BETTENDORF, Iowa The Bettendorf Fire Department is training new full time hires after hitting one month of having a full staff.
The location on Crow Creek ran strictly on volunteers up until this last month. Now, the station is open twenty four hours a day: staffed with two paid firemen and four volunteers.
This decision came after a community push for more available assistance.
We had citizens come down with concerns from this area, that they d like to have more staffing, and we listened to our citizens, Councilmen Greg Adamson said. ....

Dryer fire causes estimated $20,000 in damages to Bettendorf home

(Bettendorf, IA) A dryer is getting the blame for a Bettendorf house fire that cause thousands of dollars in damages.
Fire crews were called to the home in the 4000 block of Lilienthal Street just after 3:00 Wednesday afternoon for a report of a fire.
City leaders say a mother and her kids were home at the time of the fire and called 911. The woman told dispatch one of her kids noticed the dryer was on fire and smoke was coming from the laundry room.
The family was able to get out safely and the fire was extinguished quickly by the fire department. No one was injured during the fire. Estimated damage is around $20,000. ....

Crews make rescue at early-AM Bettendorf house fire

Crews pulled three people from a house fire in Bettendorf Thursday morning.
The Bettendorf Fire Department responded to a fire on Riverview Lane next to Neil Armstrong Elementary School around 5:45 a.m. Jan. 14, 2021.
According to the Bettendorf Fire Chief, when crews arrived the home was full of smoke after a fire started on the northwest corner.
One person was able to escape the fire, and three others were pulled from the home by fire crews.
At least three people were seen on stretchers as heavy smoke and flames poured from the house.
All four people were taken to nearby hospitals. Their conditions are not yet known. ....
