Petroleum environmental planning guidance open for comment
The Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety (DMIRS) is seeking comment from stakeholders on the revised draft Guideline for the Development of Petroleum, Geothermal and Pipeline Environment Plans in Western Australia.
The document, which will be available on the department’s website for public consultation for 12 weeks, amalgamates the following existing guidance material:
Guidance Note – Environmental Performance Objectives, Environmental Performance Standards and Measurement Criteria for Petroleum Environment Plans.
Proposed Stakeholder Engagement and Consultation Guide – Public Consultation Paper.
Guidance Note – Decommissioning, Rehabilitation and Closure of Petroleum Activities.
The revised draft guideline will assist operators to develop an Environment Plan (EP) in accordance with the Petroleum and Geothermal Energy Resources (Environment) Regulations 2012, th ....

As Southern Africa’s leading economy, South Africa should evaluate the development of gas-to-power projects to address climate change, increase its power generating capacity, and stop load shedding, which represented an estimated loss to the South African economy of R338 billion over the last ten years, according to Business Tech. Such power projects could be fuelled by liquified natural gas (“LNG”) considering sub-Saharan Africa s significant natural gas resources, which remain underexploited. Such projects could be the key to transformative change, by making available reliable energy for growth and industrialisation at affordable rates, something that South Africa has been looking for a long time. ....
