In the last three Olympic teams Barbados have had a total of seven swimmers competing, one of whom was triathlon athlete Jason Wilson in 2016. Speaking with Barbados TODAY in a phone interview, she stated that the pool of available swimmers played a big part with respect to representation. “Obviously, you have to look at the general population of Barbados in comparison to several of the competitors. Then you must look at the number of swimmers actively swimming in a training programme. Right now, our membership is three hundred swimmers using the swimming pool. CARIFTA aquatics cancelled for second year in a row Spread the love For the second year in a row, the fiercely competitive CARIFTA Aquatics Championships has been put off. The announcement was made on Saturday in a communication from the host, the Barbados Aquatic Sports Association (BASA). The Bahamas was set to take part in the swimming portion of the championships. The original date was set for April 3-7 at the Barbados Aquatics Center in Wildey, Barbados, but that was pushed back with no definitive date in sight. The Bahamas Aquatics Federation was set to send a strong swim team to defend their three-peat and get a chance to claim its sixth title in the last seven CARIFTA meets. Now, they will have to wait until 2022 for a chance to accomplish that. ....

A donation of 14 kites was made to Infectious Disease Specialist Dr. Corey Forde last Thursday for the children in tertiary care at Harrison’s Point. Dr. Forde expressed his gratitude for the kites presented, which he said would provide an absolute thrill for the children. “Easter is certainly a period of giving and sharing and during this difficult period of COVID, Variety has stepped in to help us at Harrison’s Point as we create a period of activities for all the residents at the facilities. They have donated a variety of beautiful kites and on presentation of these kites I am absolutely sure that the children are going to be thrilled by this,” Dr. Forde said last week. ....
