The sculpture of Spencer, who is famous in part for leading the fight to desegregate Coney Island s swimming pools and being the first Black woman elected to Cincinnati City Council, is the city s first named statue of a woman. A large crowd gathered at the park s Women s Garden in scorching heat for the statue s dedication, which began just before 5 p.m. The unveiling was preceded by singing and speeches from public officials, as well as family. ....
