Regional tournaments got underway Thursday for baseball and softball in Arkansas.
Cotter’s softball team punched its ticket to next week’s state tournament after their high-scoring opener in the Class 2A West Regional Tournament at Keller Park in Mountain Home. The Lady Warriors edged out Lavaca 16-15.
Acorn will be Cotter’s next opponent in the regional semifinals. Yellville-Summit was eliminated by the Lady Tigers 11-1.
Flippin will be joining Cotter in the tournament’s final four. The Lady Bobcats were able to beat up on Magazine 9-2.
Flippin’s next opponent will be Mansfield. The Lady Tigers advanced after Decatur forfeited.
The Mountain Home High School junior varsity softball team ended up with a split Saturday as they played two games at Valley View High School in Jonesboro.
The J.V. Lady Bombers began the day by beating Greene County Tech 4-1. Reagan Hasselwander went two-for-two with a walk, Katelyn Hill was one-for-three with two RBIs, Tori Robb and Mattie Belk each went one-for-two, and Gracie Uchtman was one-for-three.
Mountain Home did not fare as well in the second game as they fell to Valley View 12-3. Uchtman drove in two runs for the J.V. Lady Bombers, Marcie Cudworth was able to bunt Belk home and reach on an error in the third inning, and Belk and Olivia Crabb each went one-for-two.
Baseball and softball make up the local Saturday schedule.
The Mountain Home High School softball team will be at Valley View High School in Jonesboro for two games. The Lady Bombers face Greene County Tech at 1 p.m. and the host Lady Blazers at 3.
Melbourne will be back in Tuckerman for the championship game of the 2A-2 District Tournament. The Lady Bearkatz take on the host Lady Bulldogs at 2.
Melbourne will also compete for the title of the 2A-2 District Baseball Tournament. The Bearkatz will be paired with Tuckerman at 5.
Mammoth Spring’s baseball team will return to Marked Tree for the 1A-3 District Tournament. The Bears will play Hillcrest at noon. If they win, they’ll stay on the field for the championship game at 2.
