Bethel woman charged with murder of her 2-year-old daughter

A 33-year-old woman was arrested Friday after the beating death of her 2-year-old daughter in their Bethel home, police said.
A family member called for help after receiving an alarming phone call from Stephanie Olrun around 4:30 a.m. Friday, according to an affidavit filed by police in support of a criminal complaint. At Olrun’s home, police found the girl on the floor not breathing, the affidavit said.
An officer performed CPR on the child, but she was not revived, according to the affidavit. The girl had significant injuries all over her body, police wrote.
Olrun told officers that “she lost control because (the child) was not listening to her,” the affidavit said. ....

BETHEL - A small plane operated by an Alaska regional airline veered off the runway in Chevak on Friday while the pilot was trying to take off, officials said.
Chevak Vice Mayor Ulrich Ulroan said he believed there were no injuries when the Grant Aviation plane went off the runway, damaging its left wing. It was unclear how many passengers and crew were on the plane at the time.
Ulroan added that there were strong crosswinds as the plane tried to take off. ....

On Feb. 6, 2020, Yute Air Flight 1002 crashed about 12 miles from Tuntutuliak, killing the pilot and all four passengers. It was Alaska’s first fatal plane crash of the year, but media attention was brief.
