BETHLEHEM With a growing need for more space and a more modern facility, Bethlehem Volunteer Fire Department officials are excited that they’re very close to starting construction on a new building that will serve those needs.
The VFD will hold an official groundbreaking at 2 p.m. Saturday for the department’s new firehouse a 7,500-square-foot building that will include overnight facilities among many other amenities at 27 Chapel Road in Bethlehem. ....

Family escapes fire in East Beth Monday

A family of three escaped a house fire in East Bethlehem Township Monday morning.
Fire crews from Washington and Greene counties responded to the 10 a.m. fire in the 300 block of Main Street, only a few hours after returning from battling another fire at Sunset Marina the night before.
âI was at the fire station when the whistle blew, which is rare,â said East Bethlehem Volunteer Fire Department Chief Mark Giovanelli.
The family was home when the fire started in the one-story house, Giovanelli said. The two adults were in bed, he said, when their 6-year-old discovered the fire. Giovanelli said the man residing there told him that when the child woke him, he âlooked out and all he saw was the orange glow of the fire in the next room.â ....

Bethlehem church honors first responders

The Christ Episcopal Church in Bethlehem has always held a corned beef dinner for St. Patrick’s Day, and this year they decided to give it to Bethlehem’s first responders ambulance and volunteer fire department. Father Thom Peters gave a blessing before the food was handed over.
David Maddox, Senior Warden of the church, said they were donating the supplies they would have used for their annual fundraiser. In a letter to the Bethlehem Volunteer Fire Department, he wrote “We know because of your efforts and skills, you have helped this town recover from this pandemic. You have left your families at all hours of day and night, putting your own health at risk to help others. We hope you enjoy this dinner – you all have earned it, and our gratitude, for all you do.” ....

BETHELHEM At the height of the Monday’s snowstorm, firefighters responded to a kitchen blaze that filled a house with heavy smoke, according to fire officials.
Units were dispatched to an Arrowhead Lane home shortly before 8 p.m.
Arriving units found that the fire was contained to the kitchen, but the house was filled with heavy smoke, officials said. Crews ventilated the house, which officials said suffered heavy smoke damage but limited fire damage in the kitchen. ....
