Top qualifier Jun Woong-tae of South Korea has withdrawn from this week s International Modern Pentathlon Union (UIPM) World Cup final in Szekesfehervar in Hungary.
Jun, who finished first on the men s rankings drawn from the three World Cups to have been held this year and the one that took place in 2020 before the pandemic forced a shutdown of the sport, is among several athletes who have pulled out of the competition.
Joseph Choong of Britain and Martin Vlach of the Czech Republic have also withdrawn from the men s event, while Adelina Ibatullina of Russia, Elena Potapenko of Kazakhstan and South Korea s Kim Sun-woo have declined invites to participate in the women s competition. ....

Pentathlon World Cup Final moved from South Korea to Hungary over COVID-19

The International Modern Pentathlon Union (UIPM) has been forced to move another of its marquee events in 2021, this time the Pentathlon World Cup Final, from South Korea to Hungary because of the coronavirus crisis.
The UIPM Executive Board voted to move the event from Seoul because existing quarantine restrictions in South Korea would have created unmanageable logistical and financial challenges for participants.
A World Cup leg is scheduled in Hungary s capital Budapest later this month, ahead of back-to-back contests in Sofia in Bulgaria in April.
The original dates for the World Cup Final - May 13 to 16 - have been retained, so it will continue to be the penultimate event where athletes can earn points towards the Olympic qualification rankings. ....
