Last week the Appalachian Regional Commission approved a $616,900 economic development grant for Metcalfe County.
The money will be used to renovate a building in the county’s industrial park that will craft staves for whisky barrels made by Pennington Stave and Cooperage.
This new business will invest $3.5 million and create 60 new jobs for Metcalfe County citizens to manufacture barrels for Kentucky’s signature bourbon industry.
Congressman James Comer said expanding the bourbon industry here in Kentucky is so important, because the bourbon industry grows about 20 percent a year. Not only that, but the people investing in the building are locals. ....
