High Winds Cause Outages Throughout Inland Northwest

High winds knocked out power to about 30,000 Inland Northwest residents Sunday evening as a cold front moved through the region.
Avista reported about 15,000 customers lost power, especially near Sandpoint and in Spokane County.
Inland Power reported more than 6,000 people lost electricity, about 4,800 in Spokane County, 1,200 in Bonner County.
Kootenai Electric reported it has lost power to substations that serve about 8,600 customers lost power in the northern part of the utility s territory near Athol, Twin Lakes, Hayden, Garwood and Spirit Lake. The utility reported it has no estimates for when transmission power will be restored. It says members should prepare for lengthy outages while crews investigate the damage. ....

After a technological error delayed the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare from posting its daily COVID-19 statistics until around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, the state reported a surge of cases, adding 437.
The bulk of new cases were added in Ada (140 new, 50,436 total), Canyon (45 new, 26,015 total), and Kootenai (54 new, 17,430 total) counties.
The state also added six deaths, and recorded one of the largest spikes in hospitalizations to date, with 172 new hospitalizations reported (7,929 total). There were 38 new ICU hospitalizations (1,362 total). ....

Apr. 16 A spike in coronavirus cases on Wednesday proved to be a blip for Idaho.
The Department of Health and Welfare reported only 210 new cases Thursday, just about half the total of the day before, but the state did add nine COVID-19-related deaths. This week saw Idaho reach 2,000 deaths during the pandemic, and the total number now stands at 2,015.
There was good news on the state s positivity rate, with the latest data showing that it dropped to 4.8% for the week of April 4-10. The rate indicates the percentage of COVID-19 tests that come back positive, and health experts target a rate of less than 5% to show good control over coronavirus spread. For the week of March 28-April 3, Idaho s rate had risen to 5.6%, the highest percentage since early February. ....
