The commission heard three asphalt oil bids for the County Road and Bridge Department. The three bids were from Vance Brothers out of Kansas City, Wright Asphalt Products Company and Coastal Energy Corporation. County staff will now review the bids and make a recommendation to at a later date.
The commissioners approved a credit card for Health Department Director and Deputy County Health Officer Teddi Van Kam. The previous card was in Janis Goedeke’s name and the card has a limit of $8,000.
The commission approved a $2,500 grant drawdown request for Safehouse Crisis Center. ....

Cheers and applause accompanied the announcement that Bourbon, Cherokee and Crawford counties in southeast Kansas would be the next area to be showcased May 5-8, 2022.
Allyson Turvey, Fort Scott Tourism Director; Rachel Pruitt, Fort Scott Economic Development Director; and Rhonda Dunn, tourism advisory board member, represented the 2022 planning team at this year’s Big Kansas Road Trip (BKRT) in Brown, Doniphan and Nemaha counties. The Kansas Sampler Foundation has added Stacy Barnes, city administrator of Greensburg, to the KSF board.
Barnes helped organize the Kansas Sampler Foundation s inaugural Big Kansas Road Trip in 2018. This road trip highlighted the communities in Barber, Comanche and Kiowa counties.
Barnes grew up in Greensburg and moved back to the city shortly after the May 2007 tornado. She served as assistant to the city administrator, Big Well Museum and Tourism director. For the past two years, Barnes has worked at her current position. Barnes also served as president of the Travel Industry Association of Kansas and is active with the 5.4.7 Arts Center. ....
