HONOLULU, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) - County officials are beginning to survey the damage left behind by severe flooding that hit East Maui on Monday afternoon, damaging or destroying at least half a dozen homes, washing out roads, and making at least two bridges impassable.
Meanwhile, crews on Maui were also continuing to monitor Haiku’s Kaupakalua Dam, which overflowed Monday afternoon. Authorities feared it was in danger of failing as torrential rains walloped the island. ....

High surf advisory issued for north and west shores.
HONOLULU, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) - A northwest swell is forecast to decline briefly, but a series of swells will continue to keep surf elevated through the week.
A high surf advisory remained in effect until 6 p.m. Monday for the north shores of Molokai, Maui and the Big Island.
Waves of 10 to 15 feet were expected Monday.
The advisories may be extended or expanded later Monday as another swell in an overlapping series arrives.
This next swell is forecast to peak Monday night into Tuesday, and then diminish Wednesday. Another swell is expected Wednesday night into Thursday near warning levels before easing Friday, followed by a possible warning-level swell over the weekend. ....
