Otis official replies to Open Meeting Law complaint

After having a Select Board session max out on Zoom capacity in late January, spurring an Open Meeting Law complaint, officials in Otis upgraded their account.
When another large group of Otis residents joined a virtual board meeting Tuesday â most of them were opposed to a cell tower under consideration â they didnât face the same barrier. But, many left frustrated anyway, because the issue of a proposed tower on town property at Big Pond was not on the agenda.
âThey didnât allow anyone to talk,â said Frank Rizzo, a resident who listened to the proceeding. ....

Otis officials begin study of cell tower proposal; foes step up efforts

Residents who stand against the project, with help from the group Stop the Big Pond Cell Tower, have spelled out their opposition in a 26-page legal memo that was delivered to the town Feb. 3. Among other things, the memo says too little information is available to justify the project and that the tower would have an adverse impact on the neighborhood.
Town officials say they are interested in using a tower to fill a gap in emergency radio communications; having a telecommunications company put up a tower could allow them to place a radio antenna there as well, if that s found to be an effective way to patch holes in the ability of crews to remain in touch out in the field. ....

Otis officials rebuff calls to drop Big Pond cell tower, but say deal not done

OTIS â The top elected official in Otis is promising to convene another public meeting on the townâs exploratory interest in leasing land at Big Pond for a cell tower.
But, William Hiller, chair of the Select Board, declined to heed repeated calls to drop the proposal during a raucous online meeting this week. The Zoom session filled up with 100 participants, leaving others unable to participate.
Kayakers enjoy Big Pond in Otis, the proposed site of a cellular telephone tower that is opposed by residents of the neighborhood. Otis is seeking proposals to erect a tower on town-owned land. Officials say they hope to close a gap in cellular phone service. Neighbors are worried about their property values and the look of a tower near the pond. ....
