Hamilton breaks record, Richtman runs to victory at Montana Mile


The Big Sky State Games are officially underway. 
After the torch was lit by 1980 U.S. Olympian and former Billings West standout, Mary Osborne Andrews, all eyes turned on the Montana Mile. 
In the women s race it was a strong field of runners highlighted by Montana Tech s Becca Richtman, former Billings Senior and current Boise State runner Tiahna Vladic, and Rocky Mountain College s Sydney Little Light. 
At the halfway point, Ricthman, Vladic and Little Light separated themselves from the rest of the pack making it a three-woman race. For many of the athletes it was the first time running in front of a crowd.  ....

Montana Mile field set for 2021 Big Sky State games

The 2021 Montana Mile, sponsored by Sam’s Club, marks the 30th running for men and the 20th for women. The race is one of the most anticipated events of the Big Sky State Games Opening Ceremonies and is scheduled to take place (approximately) between 7:45 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. on Friday, July 16. The Montana Mile is an invited race featuring some of the state’s fastest high school, college, and post-collegiate milers.
The Women’s Montana Mile record is 4:53.9 set in 2011 by Lois Ricardi Keller. Patrick Casey set the Men’s record in 2010 in 4:07.9. ....

Montana Gets to Pick Favorite Version of National Anthem
There are five Montana performers who will have the chance to sing the National Anthem at the Big Sky State Games opening ceremonies, and you will play a part in selecting who gets the opportunity.
Opening ceremonies will be held Friday, July 16 at Daylis Stadium in Billings, and a panel of music professionals have narrowed down all National Anthem entries to the following five finalists:
Charlotte Ellis from Hobson
Kaden Speer from Yellowstone

After breaking record, Grizzly thrower ready to 'break it again' | Local News Stories

When it comes to track and field, athletes are often trying to set or break their own personal record and, sometimes in doing so, they break records of other athletes. And that’s just what Weston Jeffries, senior track and field player for Fruitland High School did on April 1. His 56-foot, 3-inch shot-put throw resulted in breaking not only his own personal record, but a 23-year record held by Matt Ingebritsen, who is currently the head director and track coach for the Utah State Aggies and who had earned the record-holding title in 1998 with a 54-foot, 10-inch throw.
“I’ve had it on my radar since my freshman year,” Jeffries said in a phone interview on Monday afternoon. ....
