Norfolk city buildings to lift COVID-19 restrictions July 1

NORFOLK, Va. - After Gov. Ralph Northam announced the COVID-19 State of Emergency for Virginia will end Wednesday night, the City of Norfolk announced it is lifting COVID-19 restrictions for visitors starting Thursday, July 1.
Anyone who is fully vaccinated no longer needs to wear a mask inside city buildings. If you have not been fully vaccinated, you are asked to wear a face covering.
Norfolk City Council, the Planning Commission and other commissions will return to in-person meetings with limited capacity to ensure physical distancing is maintained.
From July 1 through September 3, the following recreation facilities will be open to the public: ....

Recreation centers in Norfolk temporarily close due to COVID-19 surge

NORFOLK, Va. With COVID-19 cases still rising at an all-time high in VA, city officials decided that the safest option would be to close the recreational facilities in Norfolk for a short period.
The Norfolk Recreation, Parks & Open Space facilities are temporarily closing to the public starting on Monday, Jan. 11. This will go on for four weeks until Feb. 8, 2021.
These are the locations that will close Jan.11 - Feb. 8:
Huntersville Community Center
Berkley Community Center
Norview Community Center
Southside Aquatics Center
Northside Pool
There were some rec centers that reopened in July 2020 and some pools that reopened in Nov. 2020, from when the pandemic started.  ....

George H. Banks was affectionately called “the Mayor of Berkley”, a title that U.S. Congressman Bobby Scott called “rightly” bestowed.
Rep. Scott called Mr. Banks’ recent passing on Dec. 26 at age 88,“a tremendous loss for Norfolk and the greater Hampton Roads community”.
“George devoted his life to service to his community and successfully fought to eliminate the inequity and inequality of our nation’s housing policies,” said Rep. Scott.
Norfolk’s elected Mayor Dr. Kenneth Alexander said, “He will always be affectionately remembered as ‘The Mayor of Berkley.”
“Mr. George Banks helped shaped the Berkeley Community by introducing social and economic programs that ushered its renewal.” ....
