With fall 2021 approaching quickly, University Health Services, or UHS, is offering free vaccines to all UC Berkeley students, faculty and staff at the Pauley Ballroom.
While those interested in receiving the vaccine are welcome to preschedule through the eTang website, no appointments are necessary. Drop-in hours range from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., according to the UHS website.
The clinic will be operating from Tuesday to Thursday throughout June, with the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine being offered Tuesdays, the Pfizer vaccine Wednesdays and the Johnson & Johnson vaccine Thursdays.

As the number of COVID-19 vaccinations among UC Berkeley students, faculty and staff increases, the campus’s plan to transition to in-person activities brings me hope for the future of our community. The light at the end of the pandemic’s tunnel is finally becoming visible, and we should reflect on the ways it has transformed our sustainable practices and how we envision campus waste disposal.
Earlier this semester, the Student Environmental Resource Center’s Zero Waste team and the Zero Waste Coalition partnered to create a series of infographics highlighting the intersectionality and environmental justice aspects of zero waste on UC Berkeley’s campus. In the report, both organizations concluded that the “communities affected by campus waste are disproportionately more Latinx and Black” and that these communities face more severe health impacts ....

COVID-19 exacerbates existing issues in Berkeley housing market

COVID-19 exacerbates existing issues in Berkeley housing market

The Bay Area already has one of the highest costs of housing in the nation, which is only exacerbated by the number of UC Berkeley students in need of housing close to campus. However, despite housing prices decreasing with students leaving as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and restrictions being placed on landlords, Berkeley Tenants Union secretary Matthew Lewis alleged that landlords have been breaking the city s laws. ....

'Not just a park': Students, activists protest People's Park development

Students and community members spoke Monday in protest of campus plans to build housing on People’s Park.
Attendees met at the Martin Luther King Jr. Civic Center Park before marching to UC Berkeley’s Capital Strategies office to oppose development on the park. Speakers discussed the history of the park, what they described as one-sided messaging from campus and the larger issue of gentrification.
Dayton Andrews, a member of the United Front Against Displacement, said those who do not understand the history of People’s Park may be surprised to see the enthusiasm from community protestors against development.
“It’s not just a park, it’s a 50-plus year legacy of popular struggle,” Andrews said during the event. “People’s Park was born of the anti-Vietnam War protests of the ‘60s. Students took the park as a space so they could actually organize, not just against their own oppression, but against all forms of oppression.” ....

UC Berkeley student leaders discuss student housing amid pandemic

Following a surge in UC Berkeley COVID-19 cases, student leaders called for increased adherence to public health guidelines and accountability at Tuesday’s “COVID Conversations: Congregate Student Living” webinar.
The event, moderated by Assistant Vice Chancellor for Student Engagement Samuel Santos, focused on COVID-19 within student housing, including residence halls, Greek life and the Berkeley Student Cooperative, or BSC. Panelists specifically discussed ways to limit violations to public health requirements and stressed community values as the pandemic continues.
“COVID-19 is not stagnant. Our approach should not be stagnant either,” said ASUC President and resident assistant Victoria Vera during the panel. “All of our situations call for different needs. We need to rise to the occasion and support folks.” ....
