On a team loaded with talented senior wrestlers, junior Jacob Johnson is one sizeable look at both the present and future for 10th-ranked Franklin.
Johnson, a state finalist at 285 pounds last season, has built on that experience by gaining confidence and strength, and he’s currently ranked fifth in the state in his weight class.
He takes a spotless 12-0 record into the Class 3A state duals tournament on Saturday, an event being hosted by the Grizzly Cubs. Johnson, who lost in the opening round of the state finals at Bankers Life Fieldhouse and finished his sophomore season with a 32-10 record, placed fifth at sectional as a ninth-grader and has a career record of 61-23. ....

Their middle school games were the stuff of legend. Lopsided scores. Stranger-than-fiction stat lines. Steph Curry shooting range.
Franklin’s girls basketball freshman class arrived with a ton of fanfare, but also a lot of questions. How many of the players from that juggernaut would make the varsity? How would their skills translate against older, bigger and more seasoned players? How would the Grizzly Cub upperclassmen react to the prospect of reduced minutes?
So far, the answers have all been good; the influx of ninth-grade talent has helped Franklin win its first 10 games by an average of about 30 points apiece. Half a dozen freshmen have gotten varsity minutes at some point, but it has been the sweet-shooting duo of Scarlett Kimbrell and Lauren Klem that has truly unlocked the cheat codes for this unbeaten squad that has embraced the ideals of the modern NBA game maximize possessions, put ....

HOPE Hauser looked like it was going to end the unbeaten streak of Class A No. 7 Edinburgh early in Friday night’s Mid-Hoosier Conference boys basketball game.
In the second quarter, the Lancers went on the attack. Edinburgh closed out the first half on a 13-2 run that helped them take the lead for good on their way to a 59-54 win over the Jets to remain unbeaten on the season.
“I was concerned coming in, playing on the road, and it’d be tough to play here. It was early on that we hit some adversity,” Edinburgh coach Keith Witty said. “We kept telling them to dig at it and work at it. We started getting out in transition and getting guys some open looks, and that was a big adjustment for us in the second quarter.” ....
