Yellowstone and Grand Teton Superintendents Speak In Cody Written by Andrew-Rossi on May 11, 2021 Both Yellowstone and Grand Teton used the pandemic to their advantage as their superintendents prepare for another year of projects and people in Wyoming. During the latest Cody Club Lunch, there were two guest speakers: Cam Sholly, Superintendent of Yellowstone National Park, and Palmer “Chip” Jenkins, Jr., the newly appointed superintendent of Grand Teton National Park. Sholly gave a PowerPoint presentation of his “State of the Park” for 2021. Jenkins apologized for not having a formal presentation – he’s still in his first three months in his new position. ....

Summer 2021 is already destined to be busy in Yellowstone National Park. In addition to the potential for another record-breaking year, park officials are embarking on several significant construction projects. Work to repair and restore infrastructure will be underway at Mammoth Hot Springs, Old Faithful, and the North Entrance at Gardiner. The road between Tower-Roosevelt and Canyon Village will remain closed for another year as the road is widened and pullouts are improved. ....
2015 – 4,097,710 This will be the first year since 2015 that visitation hasn’t crossed the four million mark. It also the lowest visitation number since 2014 – 3.51 million people. Despite COVID-19, delayed openings of park entrances, and a global pandemic – the difference between 2019’s and 2020’s Yellowstone visitation . . . . . . was only 5%. Yellowstone’s 2020 summer season didn’t get off to a great start. While the Wyoming Entrances (East and South) opened close to their usual time mid-May, the three Montana Entrances (North, West, and Northeast) stayed closed until June 1. Many of the park’s hotels, interpretive centers, and other visitor amenities kept their doors shut thru the entire summer and into the winter. ....
