Today’s Daily Bread, a Christian-based non-profit organization born last year, held a ribbon-cutting ceremony recently to commemorate the start of its second summer.
Business founder Candace Nichols had a calling to “fill the stomachs and hearts” of students 18 and younger who otherwise might go hungry during the summer, she said.
More than 60 percent of Gaston County students qualify for free or reduced-price meals at school, but many lack access to meals during summer breaks, Nichols said.
Nichols, formerly a human resources executive, felt led to help meet this need and created Today’s Daily Bread, a mobile meal delivery service. ....

ST. CLAIRSVILLE The city’s Main Street will kick off a series of Second Saturday events this weekend, following today’s Food Truck Friday.
St. Clairsville Area Chamber of Commerce Director Wendy Anderson, organizing the event, said excitement is high and all are welcome in the coming months.
“And then we’ll have a Second Saturday in June, July and August, September and October,” she said. “The second Saturday of every month until October.”
Anderson said extensive participation will mark each event, from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
“We have all-day events. We have a food truck, which is Mason Dixon BBQ. We have Jack’s Ice Cream,” she said. “We have D.J. Daner. He will be providing the music and he will be DJing downtown. We will have sidewalk sales. We will have crafts.” ....

St. Clairsville recreation appointments lead to confusion | News, Sports, Jobs

ST. CLAIRSVILLE Questions and confusion about the latest nominations to fill two expiring terms on the city recreation board for the J.B. Martin Recreation Center dominated the Monday teleconference meeting of St. Clairsville City Council.
After more than a half-hour of debate, council voted in favor of current board members Diane Schubert and Alicia Freeman, daughter of Councilwoman Linda Jordan. Their terms had been set to expire April 17. Each will serve another five-year term.
Councilman Perry Basile had nominated Lisa Amos.
Council members were unsure if one or both terms were set to expire this month, and some members suggested putting off the vote until a later meeting until this could be determined. When Jordan did not withdraw her nomination of Freeman, Law Director Elizabeth Glick consulted prior council minutes and found Schubert had filled an ongoing term rather than a complete one, and so both of the council’s nominations ....
