Family meals are a top priority: And she loves to bake – Gazette Journal

Nicole Foster removes a pan of her homemade rolls, one of her most requested specialties, and a loaf of bread.
“For me there is nothing more gratifying than preparing a meal for my family, complete with dessert,” explained Nicole Foster, a wife, mother of two sons (John Wilson and Joshua) and full-time employee at Mathews High School. She is a good cook who always wanted dinner time to be where the family could all reconnect. “We always ate at the table, no electronics, but lots of food and laughter. Good food was always a good way to keep them at the table and their father’s (John Foster) ability to tell a good story that would have us all laughing.” ....

'Commitment to justice': The Rev. Bob Hailey fought tirelessly for civil rights


STOCKTON Longtime civil rights activist the Rev. Bob Hailey, a retired pastor and former president of the Stockton chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, passed away Friday.
Hailey was instrumental in the development of Zettie Miller’s Haven  an 82-unit affordable housing project on Rose Marie Lane for seniors, veterans and special-needs clients whose namesake “had faith that I’ve never seen in my ministry,” Hailey said at the dedication in 2017. He also once was director of a program that helped former inmates reintegrate into society. 
But it was his fight for justice after the death of a young Black man that he may be most remembered for, said Bobby Bivens, president of Stockton’s NAACP chapter. ....
