The U.S. is top destination for Asian outbound property investment
According to new research from global property consultant CBRE, Asian outbound commercial real estate investment volume declined 37% year-over-year to $30 billion in 2020, as Coronavirus-related obstacles including restrictions on travel and site inspections impeded purchasing activity.
Singapore retained its position as the most active source of outbound capital for the third consecutive year, accounting for $12.1 billion worth of deals in 2020. The Korean won s lower hedging costs against the US dollar contributed to investors from this market accounting for nearly half of Asian outbound investment stateside, and the second-largest source of outbound funds overall. Investment volume expected to rise in 2021, says CBRE

Almost a year after the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, some 60% of investors have indicated their intention to buy more property in 2021, the highest level since 2016, according to CBRE’s Asia Pacific Investor Intentions Survey 2021.
“The recent commencement of vaccination programmes in several countries around the world has further boosted market confidence. Together with an increase in asset availability resulting from disposals by developers and real estate funds, this has led us to forecast a 5% to 10% year-on-year rise in investment volume in 2021,” says CBRE.
The survey was conducted between Nov 9 and Dec 14, 2020, with the participation of 492, mainly Asia-Pacific-based, investors. Most investor types such as high-net-worth individuals, real estate investment trusts (REITs) and institutional investors have shown stronger buying intentions for 2021 than last year, it adds. ....

CBRE: HCM City among top preferred cities for cross-border investments in Asia-Pacific
Ho Chi Minh City has been ranked fifth as Asia Pacific investors’ most preferred market for investments by CBRE Group, Inc.
CBRE’s Asia Pacific Investor Intentions Survey 2021 was conducted between November 9 and December 14 last year.
