Kenya-Tanzania seek to repair bilateral ties

“The State visit comes at a time when Kenya and Tanzania are working closely to deepen ties in the area of trade and people-to-people relations including the private sector, arts, culture, wildlife matters, tourism and cooperation at the continental and Multilateral levels,” read the statement by Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Suluhu’s trip to Kenya will be her second outside the country since she took office in March.

The Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has cleared the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) draft bill following a successful verification exercise.
The Commission has in writing submitted a copy of the bill to all 47 County Assemblies, for debate.
IEBC Chair Wafula Chebukati says the bill has been supported by at least 1.14 million registered voters, a necessary requirement to enable the bill proceed to the next stage.
“The Commission, through interim verification of data captured as of January 19, 2021, has confirmed and is satisfied that the Initiative has been supported by 1,140,845 registered voters,” Chebukati said. ....

IEBC Issues Verdict on BBI Signatures

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has approved 1.14 million signatures in the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) bill.
This is out of the 4.2 million signatures submitted by the BBI secretariat team on December 10, 2020.
In a notice dated Tuesday, January 26, IEBC Chairperson Wafula Chebukati affirmed that the initiative surpassed the threshold needed to proceed to the next stage.

The IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati submitted to the 47 counties the BBI draft Bill for approval. 
It will require two thirds or 24 counties to approve the Bill before Kenyans can take a vote to approve or reject it in a referendum.
Mr Chebukati said the commission, through an interim verification of data captured as of January 19, 2021, has confirmed that the initiative has been supported by 1,140,845 registered voters. ....
