Outrage over racist booklets appearing in Auckland letterboxes


The booklet purports to be produced by failed political party 1Law4All. The party was launched in 2013 advocating the removal of references to the Treaty of Waitangi in the nation’s laws.
The party was deregistered by the Electoral Commission in 2014 having not contested an election or tabled a candidate for contention. A Facebook post said the resignation of four of its five board members triggered the demise.
Opposes special rights
1Law4All’s current website is registered to Perry Spiller of Hastings. Calls and emails to Spiller went unanswered.
Former ACT and National Party leader Don Brash wrote an extract for another pamphlet distributed by the group in 2017. ....

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has kicked off a four-day visit to Northland at an emotion-filled unveiling of a memorial for British soldiers killed during the Ruapekapeka battle of 1846.
Ardern, Governor General Patsy Reddy and British High Commissioner Laura Clarke were at the unveiling of the memorial stone, which sits over the grave where the 12 British troops killed during the battle were found during an archaeological dig in 2017. ....

Treaty of Negotiations Minister Andrew Little says today’s Labour Government would not have taken the action of its predecessor in barring Māori access to the courts.
The government yesterday gazetted the first and only agreement on customary rights started under the controversial 2004 Foreshore and Seabed Act, spelling out the rights and interests of Ngāti Porou hapū and iwi in 14 areas along the East Cape and East Coast.
