Hate crime numbers are increasing nationwide, according to new numbers from the U.S. Department of Justice obtained this week by KCRA 3. Hate crimes . have always been a topic of concern, said FBI Sacramento Special Agent Sean Reagan. The trends have shown an increase over the last five years. Between 2015 and 2019, reported hate crimes increased 25%, and 60% of those were racially motivated, according to FBI reports. I think people are reporting more frequently now, but we all need to encourage members of the community to continue to report, said Reagan, adding he believes there are many more crimes that go unreported. Both Reagan s office and the Sacramento County ADA acknowledged there are challenges to prosecuting hate crimes. Between 2000 and 2019, the U.S. Department of Justice investigated 1,864 suspects for federal hate crimes. U.S. attorneys convicted only 284. it s another busy day for staff at Sacramento restaurant. Been joe hockey, the restaurant buoyed by a combination of hard work tenacity and good food under chef owner Craig Takahara. Despite a 75% hit in sales during the pandemic. Not a single worker here was let go. We ve done our best to stay open during the entire pandemic. And it would be a shame for us to have to close Takahara now jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire and not by choice. This week, the S. B. A. Took back the grant money. It approved for Takahara restaurant. The funds were approved over a month ago. Well, you know, it s obviously devastating and having that taken away obviously as after we ve been approved and doing all the work to get approved. Uh you know ....
