SIOUX CITY, Iowa (AP) Veteran music teacher Eleanor May-Patterson has a unique way of calling her class to order.
“I say, “Bow’s up!’” she explained, literally placing her musical bow, vertically, on top of her head. “That signifies that all eyes should be on me and class is getting ready to begin.”
This has been May-Patterson’s style as a Sioux City Community School District string instrument instructor for the past 30 years.
While we can take music seriously, we can have fun for ourselves.
Set to retire at the end of the 2020-2021 school year, May-Patterson conducted her final high school concert earlier this month at East High School. ....

One Auckland charitable trust says some residents are especially vulnerable to sexual violence, which may only become apparent in years to come. ....

Study examines how SARS-CoV-2 affects body’s vital organs
University of Alberta researchers are recruiting COVID-19 patients for a study to learn how the SARS-CoV-2 virus affects some of the body’s most vital organs.
The team, led by Ian Paterson, a cardiologist and professor of medicine in the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, is using new MRI techniques it developed to detect injury to the lungs, heart and brain. The researchers hope to get a clearer picture of how the virus causes inflammation in the organs, how long it takes for symptoms to run their course and how it affects people’s functional abilities. ....

Aaron Paul gives Stephen Colbert the password to his secret home speakeasy

You know how it is. You’re in the market for a house (or idly speculating on the fantastical day when you’d actually be able to afford one) when your Zillow scrolling tour of some nondescript-looking fixer-upper comes to a horrified halt at the one photo indicating that the previous owners had some . . . secrets. Well, as Aaron Paul noted on his Thursday Late Show appearance from his recently purchased home in Los Feliz, California, when your price range is essentially peak-TV unlimited, the hidden features of your prospective abode escalate from the odd kitchen toilet or Bigfoot sighting to an entire, super-secret, Prohibition-era speakeasy, concealed behind a fake wall and a giant wall safe.
