What began as the Year of the Transfer in Division I men’s lacrosse has produced a national title matchup with distinctly different traits. Continuity and cohesion are the watchwords for third-seeded Maryland (15-0) and fourth-seeded Virginia (13-4), who will meet in Monday’s final at Rentschler Field. Fifth-year players have clearly powered both to varying degrees. The Terrapins have attackman Jared Bernhardt and defenseman Nick Grill, both of whom took advantage of the extra year of eligibility afforded by the NCAA. Virginia still has long pole Jared Conners and midfielder Dox Aitken. ....

U.S. women’s national team tryouts June 9-11 at USA Lacrosse headquarters in Sparks, Md., will include a one-hour live stream on Lax Sports Network on Thursday, June 10, USA Lacrosse announced Tuesday. Sheehan Stanwick Burch and Kristen Kjellman Marshall will co-host the show. The tryouts will feature 63 of the nation’s top players including 16 players and five coaches participating in NCAA championship weekend. ....
It’s nearly Championship Weekend. Chalk advanced through to the NCAA semifinals in both the Division I men’s and women’s brackets, an interesting development considering the caliber of games it took to get to this point. On the men’s side, North Carolina, Duke, Maryland and Virginia are the teams left standing to chase a national title. Patrick Stevens recapped how we got here. On the women’s side, a national title will be won by either North Carolina, Northwestern, Syracuse or Boston College.
