PESCADERO, Calif. - Authorities in San Mateo County are investigating a body that washed ashore Sunday afternoon on Pescadero State Beach.
The body was found at the beach shortly before 1 p.m. The person was clothed and appeared to have been the water for some time, and was obviously deceased, the San Mateo County Sheriff s Office said.
Sunday s discovery comes just 36 hours after a man s body washed ashore on San Gregorio State Beach, located 7 miles north of Pescadero. He was identified as a resident of Stockton who had earlier been reported missing in the area. ....

Cal Fire officials said the men were walking on shore as the tide rose. That s when they became stranded on the rock.
The U.S. Coast Guard and the California Highway Patrol brought in their helicopters to assist with Cal Fire.
According to Cal Fire, the U.S. Coast Guard rescued one of the men by hoisting him to safety. While the other two men were rescued by California State Parks swimmers by using a board.

Authorities rescued three men after they were stranded on a rock Saturday evening at Pescadero State Beach, Cal Fire officials said.
According to Cal Fire, they responded to the rescue just after 7 p.m. at Pescadero State Beach.
Officials said the three men, between the ages of 18 and 20, found themselves stranded on a rock about a 100 yards off shore.
Cal Fire officials said the men were walking on shore as the tide rose. That s when they became stranded on the rock. ....

Sheriff's drones carry new rescue plan | Local News Stories


Richard Deschler, a deputy with the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office, was on the scene for two ocean search-and-rescue operations in January. In the span of one week, two people were swept out to sea by large surf at Pescadero State Beach. Only one person was recovered.
A few days later, an 8-year-old boy was pulled out to sea from Cowell Ranch State Beach. During the responses, Deschler stood on the beach piloting a drone, searching for any signs of life.
“I thought even if I see them, there’s not much I can do until a boat or helicopter gets out there,” Deschler recalled. “I thought if our drones are able to give them lifejackets, it at least gives someone a chance to get rescued out there.” ....
