Reading and the rest of Berkshire placed in tier 3

The new Covid measures will come in from Saturday, December 19, at 00:01.
Covid cases have spiked in Reading and the rest of Berkshire following the end of the second lockdown and are currently at their highest level since the beginning of the pandemic.
The Covid case rate in Reading now stands at 222 cases per 100,000 in the last seven days with available data (December 6-12).
Reacting to the news, Councillor Jason Brock, leader of the council, said: It is now more important than ever we all stick to the guidelines in what is a critical time in the run up to possibly visiting elderly or vulnerable family when restrictions are currently planned to be temporarily lifted for five days over the Christmas period. ....

Reading’s public health expert has issued an update after it was announced the town will move into tier 3 from Saturday.
Health Secretary Matt Hancock announced this morning that the whole of Berkshire will be under tier 3 Covid restrictions from Saturday at 00:01.

Corbridge coronavirus outbreak 'self-contained'

A SIGNIFICANT rise of coronavirus cases in the Corbridge area has been described as a contained outbreak.
As of Wednesday, the Corbridge ward had seen 22 cases in seven days - the third highest figure in Northumberland for that time.
However, officials have moved to reassure residents and explained that the outbreak has been traced to a residential setting in the area.
Coun. Nick Oliver, who represents the ward on the county council, said: My concerns about the rise in cases in Corbridge have been allayed by the Public Health team’s assurance that this is a contained outbreak which doesn’t represent a risk to the wider community. ....
