It was a year ago today that the country s chief medical officer reported the first patient in Hertfordshire had tested positive for coronavirus.
Professor Chris Whitty confirmed three new cases on February 29, 2020, bringing the total number of confirmed UK cases to 23.
In his announcement, Professor Whitty said the three new cases confirmed that day were in Hertfordshire, Berkshire, and Gloucestershire.
In our report from that day, we
wrote the three cases were being investigated and any individuals who had contact with the patients are now being traced.
Authorities would not reveal where in Hertfordshire the patient is from for patient confidentiality reasons. ....

Health Secretary Matt Hancock said London could be placed on lockdown in the event of a widespread coronavirus outbreak.
Mr Hancock said on the BBC’s Andrew Marr show that the Government was “looking at all options” and did not rule out following China’s lead in isolating cities.
“We won’t take anything off the table at this stage, because you have got to make sure you have all the tools available if that is what is necessary”, he said.
Essex’s first confirmed coronavirus patient was treated in Harlow as the month began before being transferred to another hospital. ....
