After overcoming a spike in cases in January, Malawi is “hopeful” of continued improvement as  first consignment of 360 000 doses of AstraZeneca/ Oxford vaccine from the World Health Organization-led COVAX facility arrived in the country on Friday afternoon , ready for the first jabs after five days.

The University of Glasgow is furthering its long-term commitment to working with organisations in Malawi with the establishment of an interdisciplinary collaboration network, bringing together colleges from across the University.  
The overall aim of the network is to make lasting impacts on Malawian health and wellbeing by forming long-term partnerships that enrich both Malawian and Scottish academic cultures.
The Malawi Glasgow Network for Interdisciplinary Collaboration (MaGNetIC) will bring together colleagues involved in all UofG’s longstanding collaborations in Malawi to ensure consistency of engagement and establish a coherent framework aimed at enhancing all interactions for both Malawian and Scottish partners. ....

Registration is now open for the Addressing Antibiotic Use Roundtable hosted by the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. 
How can insights from social research inform efforts to address antibiotic use in humans, animals and crops around the world? 
This online Roundtable will launch a report of recommendations from social research about how best to address the increasing - and yet uneven – use of antibiotics across the One Health spectrum. Responding to calls for increased attention to social and behavioural aspects of antibiotic use, the evidence base on this topic is now expanding – reflected in a series of four panels in 2020. Malawi Mandates Quarantine for Returnees from South Africa

BLANTYRE - Malawi has introduced a mandatory quarantine on returnees from South Africa to control rising cases of COVID-19.  Thousands of Malawians have returned from South Africa in recent weeks, and officials fear they could import the new, more contagious form of coronavirus.
Malawi has seen a rapid increase of COVID-19 cases since the middle of December.    
The Public Health Institute of Malawi reports confirmed cases jumped from 116 on December 18 to 946 on January 5.   
Health authorities say they believe the rise is largely driven by Malawians who traveled to South Africa to look for work and escape poverty triggered by the pandemic.  ....
