Funding has been announced to develop a dementia friendly garden at St Gabriel s Ward at St Canice s Hospital in Kilkenny.
The project is one of 20 across the country to have successfully secured funding from this year’s call for ideas under the Public Service Innovation Fund.
The fund, which was established in 2019, is a competition designed to support innovative ideas from public service bodies to promote collaboration and new and better approaches to service delivery.
This year’s call saw a total of 279 project proposals received from organisations in all sectors of the Public Service - Civil Service, Defence Forces, Education Sector, Health Sector, Local Government, Justice Sector and Non-Commercial State Agencies. ....

20 diverse projects have successfully secured funding from this year’s call for ideas under the Public Service Innovation Fund
, an initiative of the Our Public Service 2020 reform strategy for development and innovation in the Public Service.
The Fund, which was established in 2019, is a competition designed to support innovative ideas from public service bodies to promote collaboration and new and better approaches to service delivery.

'Smart Ring Buoys' innovation challenge underway across Dublin's 4 local authorities


Four companies are piloting a range of innovative solutions to supply low-cost, retro-fit, technology solutions to alert, monitor and report on when ring buoys go missing or are tampered with.
This is part of an innovation challenge that was issued in 2020 to find smarter solutions to address the challenge of ‘missing’ ring buoys. The solutions aim to monitor in real time when life buoys are tampered with or taken. Apart from the potential to save lives, other benefits include reducing the number of ring buoys that go missing and decreasing the time taken to replace them.
In Dublin City Council alone, around 15 ring buoys go missing or are stolen every week. The need to replace nearly 600 ring buoys each year costs in excess of €20,000 and, more importantly, potentially endangers lives. ....
