Centralised admission services to sanitise selection process — Prof. Salifu

The Director-General of the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), Professor Mohammed Salifu, has explained that the intention of the government to introduce a Centralised Admission Services (CAS) in the Public University Bill is to sanitise the admission process into universities.
He also said such a system would be cheaper for prospective students who would no more have to buy more than one admission form to brighten their chances of gaining entrance into the university.
Prof. Salifu gave the explanation in an interview with the Daily Graphic in Accra in reaction to calls by some lecturers, civil society organisations and other stakeholders for the proposed bill to be thrown away. ....

Government will pursue robust education system – Dr Adutwum assures

The Education Minister-designate, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, has given the assurance that he would pursue a rigorous and robust education system to bridge the disparities between children in the southern and northern sectors.
Therefore, when approved as the Education Minister, he would tap into the rural telephony connectivity project being pursued by the Communications Ministry, to ensure that children everywhere in the country have access to the Internet for promotion of the study of Information Communication Technology.
Dr Adutwum, also Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe, gave the assurance when he appeared before the Parliament’s Appointments Committee for vetting.
The Minister-designate kicked against the idea for schools to be closed down again due to the spread of Coronavirus, explaining that, if the Covid-19 safety and preventive protocols are strictly observed, the school environment would be a safer place than the home. ....
