Pierre, Burke get Wellmark Foundation Large MATCH grants; Organizations have until Aug. 25 to secure matching funds

The Wellmark Foundation has chosen entities in Pierre and Burke to each receive a $100,000 grant– if they can secure $100,000 in matching funds by August 25, 2021.
Pierre’s Matching Assets to Community Health (MATCH) grant funds will be used for the Outdoor Pool Replacement Project, while Fitness on Main in Burke has designated its funds for installation of a Splash Pad as part of a larger park project.
Mary Lawyer, executive director for The Wellmark Foundation, says both towns are planning projects that can help individuals, families and communities achieve better health through initiatives that encourage physical activity. She says both of these projects have the potential to make positive, long-term impacts on the overall health and well-being of community members. ....

The Wellmark Foundation is offering two competitive Matching Assets to Community Health (MATCH) grant opportunities in 2021. The MATCH grants are designed to support projects that provide access to healthy foods or create or enhance a safe environment to be physically active in. These grants also require a matching component in the form of cash or in-kind support. “For almost 30 years, the Wellmark Foundation’s commitment to the health and well-being of Iowans and South Dakotans has not wavered,” said Mary Lawyer, the foundation’s executive director. “We are proud to be able to continue this legacy through funding sustainable projects that make it easy to eat healthy and engage in physical activity.
