Huron County lifts hiring freeze

The Huron County Board of Commissioners has voted to rescind a hiring freeze for county jobs that has been in place since last March.
Former Commissioner Ron Wruble came up with the idea of a hiring freeze as one of many ways to cut the county budget should the need arise during the COVID-19 pandemic. The sheriff’s department was the only county department exempt from the freeze.
Commissioner Todd Talaski, the head of the personnel committee, said this was also a way for the county to get a handle on things as the pandemic was just getting started in Michigan. ....
