THERE were more gardaí at a planned freedom walk than protesters in Limerick city this Easter Sunday this afternoon.
Organised by RiseUp Eireann, it was due to start at 2pm in Arthur s Quay Park.
From well before 2pm there were around a dozen uniformed and plain clothes gardai in the area. However, no walk or speeches commenced. Traffic Corps and Armed Support vehicles were also seen in the vicinity.
Walkers passed by on the riverfront, children played on scooters while their parents discussed what was and wasn t open in town. It was like every other Sunday afternoon apart from the increased garda presence. ....

Anti-lockdown protesters who were expected in Limerick this afternoon were a no show.
A group known as Rise Up Éireann had announced on social media that they would gather at Arthur s Quay in Limerick city at 2 pm this afternoon to protest about the current lockdown restrictions.
A dozen uniformed and plain clothed Gardaí as well as Traffic Corps and Armed Support vehicles were spotted at the scene, but no protesters arrived.
Earlier this week, the group said freedom walks were also taking place in Dublin, Galway, Waterford, Clare, Kerry, Cork and Sligo. ....

JAKARTA: Chief of the Traffic Corps of the National Police Inspector General Istiono stated that there will an increase of armed personnel in several vital locations.
The effort will be carried out in an attempt to safeguard the Good Friday celebration on April 2 and Easter on April 4, 2021.
In addition, the increase in security is also related to the recent attack on the National Police Headquarter and the suicide bombing at the Cathedral Church in Makassar.

Syracuse, NY New York Army National Guard Lt. Col. William Hofmann, a Manlius resident and veteran of the War in Afghanistan, took command of the 427th Brigade Support Battalion, during change of command ceremonies held at Hancock Field Air National Guard Base on Sunday, March 14.
Hofmann replaces Lt. Col. Shawn Shutts who took command of the unit in 2018. Shutts is retiring from the Army National Guard after more than 20 years of service.
Shutts resides in Macungie, Pennsylvania with his wife Lisa and their daughters, Caroline and Abigail. He is the Director of Academy Operations at the United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings s Point, New York. ....
