Three-day protest by driving schools against online booking system to start on Friday

The National Driving School Association of SA is urging the public not to visit traffic department offices for three days starting on Friday, when they will be staging protests to demand the scrapping of the online booking system.
“Since the department of transport is not taking us seriously, we are planning to picket at the [department] and Road Traffic Management Corporation on Friday. On Monday and Tuesday we are closing all the stations. There will be no service for all stations. We are urging the public not to go to any traffic department,” said Abel Mositsa, the association s chairperson. ....

Free State records reduction in road accidents

Free State MEC for Health, Montseng Tsiu, has confirmed that the province recorded a significant reduction in trauma cases on the roads and at provincial hospitals.
On December 31 there were 14 accidents, with no fatalities. By comparison, there were 19 accidents with 3 fatalities on the same day in 2019.
On New Year s Day there were 11 accidents with no fatalities whilst the same time a year ago there were 9 accidents and no fatalities.
It was a quiet and peaceful New Year s Eve and New Year s Day. We are usually up and about on the provinces’ five national key roads that connect the surrounding six provinces and the kingdom of Lesotho. As a province at the centre of the country we are usually at our busiest during these days and often experience fatal accidents, but this time around, it has been different said Tsiu.  ....
