With the ongoing pandemic, this year will look a little different, but will be modified for a safe, in-person I Love My Park Day event. Parks and Trails New York, in partnership with New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation and DEC, will be hosting a more contained, two-day event on Saturday, May 1, and Sunday, May 2, 2021 with social distancing and mask requirements in place. ....
Funds are being sought to improve Chautauqua County’s trail system. Jacob Bodway, who is the president of the Western New York Mountain Biking Association, is working with the county Parks Commission to implement a six year improvement project for the Overland Trails. Phases 1-3 would be for the West Overland Trails, while Phases 4-6 would focus on the East Overland Trails. Ideally, Bodway would like $75,000 to $100,000 per phase and implement one phase a year through 2026. He has submitted a grant application to the Ralph Wilson Jr. Foundation through the Community Foundation of Greater Buffalo. He is also working with foundations in the county for matching funds. ....

The Boutwell Hill Ski Club has purchased a new grooming ATV made possible through the support of local foundations and supporters. The Jessie Smith Darrah Fund, Carnahan-Jackson Foundation, Lakeshore Savings Community Reinvestment Fund and Chautauqua Region Community Foundation provided funding for nearly 60% of the purchase price. Supporters and trail users provided the balance. “We’re grateful to our local foundation for their confidence and support of our great winter recreation program on Boutwell Hill,” said Andy Dickson, Boutwell Hill Ski Club president. “Our new ATV is agile and powerful in deep snow and will mean more and better grooming of the trail system.” ....
