ELIZABETHTON — The Marvelous Wonderettes signing group for Springfield High School’s 1958 senior prom would like to invite you to the Bonnie Kate Theater during the next couple of weeks for a musical walk down memory lane.
The Marvelous Wonderettes — Betty Jean, Cindy Lou, Missy and Suzy — are four friends who make up the singing group for the senior prom and for their high school reunion 10 years later. Hit songs include “Lollipop,” “Dream Lover,” “Stupid Cupid,” “It’s My Party,” and “Mr. Sandman.” They perform over 30 classic ’50s and ’60s hits.
In this exclusive interview with the girls, they share some nuggets of wisdom they uncovered over the 10 years between their prom and their class reunion. Here’s a glimpse into the hearts and minds of the characters of this show. ....

Jonesborough Repertory Theatre presents USO show at Bonnie Kate Theater in Elizabethton


ELIZABETHTON — Just two days after ending a production of “The Sound of Music,” the Jonesborough Repertory Theatre and the Bonnie Kate Theater are once again coming together to present this year’s performance of the “1940s USO Show.”
Because of renovations taking place with the Jonesborough group’s home theater, it found a temporary home in the Bonnie Kate to present its rendition of “The Sound of Music” from June 10-27. The troupe will continue its symbiotic relationship with the Bonnie Kate by presenting its 18th annual “1940s USO Show” at the Elizabethton landmark.
The patriotic Independence Day program will be performed eight times from July 2 through July 4. The first performance is Friday night, July 2, at 7:30 p.m. The program will be presented on Saturday, July 3, at 2, 4, 6 and 8 p.m. The final performances will be on Sunday, July 4, at 2, 4, and 6 p.m. ....

Busy Independence Day weekend planned in Elizabethton


ELIZABETHTON — With three fireworks shows on different days in different locations, free music concerts, a 5K race, baseball, extended shopping in downtown stores, and a presentation of an old-time USO show, there will be plenty to do in Elizabethton this Independence Day weekend.
It all gets started on Friday, July 2, with the monthly First Friday events, then takes off on Saturday, July 3, with the Elizabethton Parks and Recreation Department once more holding its Independence Day celebrations at the Covered Bridge Park and the Carter County Car Club holding its weekly Cruise-In in downtown Elizabethton.
Many downtown stores will have extended hours into the evening on Friday. Some stores will have special sales and some will host artists who will be working on projects in the store. Other stores will have live music. ....
