'Premium' sparkly penguin sculpture sells for $36k at charity auction

Shy-no-more, sold for $36,000.
The artwork was inspired by her love of sparkly dancing clothes and a particular pair of sequinned hot pants she bought in a Sydney boutique. She said it took about 390 hours to decorate the penguin.
Her research of yellow-eyed penguins revealed they were very shy.
“This guy is not shy any more,’ she said. “He wants to go out and dance. He wants to have a good time.”

The penguin was purchased by Harcourts Grenadier Real Estate managing director Andy Freeman.
“I just loved it from day one,” he said. “It is fantastic. It is the premium penguin.” ....

Flurry of bids and high prices at Pop Up Penguins auction in Christchurch

Linda and Ian Hayman from Lake Pukaki check out the penguins before the bidding started on Wednesday evening.
Adams said she was “overwhelmed” by the price her sculpture reached.
“That was absolutely incredible, she said after the hammer closed the sale at $21,000.
“I had a feeling it would do well, but not that well. I started crying and so did my mum.
“Penguins and tui are both quite mischievous, and I wanted to bring that out. At this scale I could really show the colours and the feathers of the tui.”

Oldham agency creates online home for New Zealand Pop-Up Penguins trail

Oldham s Cornerstone Design & Marketing has developed a website for the next trail from global art installation providers, Wild in Art - Pop-Up Penguins in Christchurch, New Zealand.
Cornerstone has created the website for their clients, which helps reach sponsors and viewers at a time when social distancing is necessary. Wild in Art s popular sculpture trails - including the Gratitude project coming to Manchester this year - are accompanied by physical events including sponsor receptions, which can t currently take place.
Pop-Up Penguins is intended to raise awareness of penguins, conservation, exploration and climate change in the Antarctic and beyond. Other physical events the project s new website hopes to emulate include school, community and charity activities. ....
