Oregon boaters, campers, and users of Weiser Sand Dunes Recreation Area should be forewarned that the graveled portion of Olds Ferry Road that accesses Steck Park and the dunes is as rough as hell, and unlikely to get better, because the Weiser Valley Road District has little capability to correct the situation. Since the preponderance of use of the road is access to facilities managed by the federal Bureau of Land Management for the purposes of public recreation, it should be obvious that BLM budgets should bear the cost of paving the road so recreationalists can have all-season access without having to make repairs to their vehicles from damage sustained by using the road. ....
The Bureau of Land Management Four Rivers Field Office announced today that the agency has acquired 560 acres in the northwest Boise foothills to enhance public access to open space and recreation opportunities. The BLM purchased the landâ known as the Healy Toll Road parcelâfrom the Land Trust of the Treasure Valley using money from the Land and Water Conservation Fund. The acquisition will secure public access in perpetuity to the parcel and open approximately 3,040 acres of adjacent BLM-managed public lands that previously lacked formal legal access. âThe Trump Administration has continued to prioritize and enhance outdoor recreation opportunities for the American people,â said BLM Deputy Director for Programs and Policy William Perry Pendley. âThis acquisition demonstrates our commitment to expanding these opportunities as well as access to public lands.â ....
