The Port of Corpus Christi’s newest Commissioner, Rajan Ahuja, was sworn in on Friday, Feb. 26.
Nueces County Judge Barbara Canales administered the Oath of Office for Ahuja, who replaces Al Jones on the Port Commission.
“Port Staff welcomes Commissioner Ahuja for his insightful perspective on the oil and gas industry, as well as his strong philanthropic ties to the South Texas Coastal Bend,” said Sean Strawbridge, Chief Executive Officer for the Port of Corpus Christi. “As the largest gateway for energy exports from the United States, Mr. Ahuja’s over two decades of experience in leadership roles in the oil and gas sector will serve the Port of Corpus Christi well, thereby continuing our commitment to creating value for our customers and community stakeholders.” ....

The Port of Corpus Christi reports 2020 with record tonnage, mainly attributable to a 65 percent increase in crude oil shipments from 2019. The Port set a new annual tonnage record of 159.7 million tons, a 31 percent increase over 2019, as well as a new monthly record of 15.9 million tons for December, 15 percent higher than December 2019. This performance helped push fourth-quarter results to a new quarterly record of 42.2 million tons, surpassing the prior record from Q1-2020, according to the press release.
Several new marine terminals were brought online in 2020, including EPIC Midstream, Buckeye’s South Texas Gateway, Plains All-American and Enterprise Products’ Eagle Ford Terminal joint venture, Pin Oak Corpus Christi, and South Texas Cement. In addition to increased crude oil shipments totaling 96.4 million tons, the Port saw a 26 percent increase in liquefied nat ....

Congress recently passed the bipartisan Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) of 2020, which provides authority for the Army Corps to carry out water resource development projects and studies.
The legislation also reforms and provides policy direction to the USACE for implementation of its civil works missions including navigation construction projects such as the Corpus Christi Ship Channel Improvement Project.
WRDA 2020 includes the Port of Corpus Christi’s high-priority reauthorization of the Corpus Christi Ship Channel Improvement Project (CIP) at an estimated increased project cost of $676 million ($404 million Federal cost share and $272 million Non-Federal cost share to the Port of Corpus Christi). ....
