Ghani shares his concerns on polio problem with Bill Gates

President Ashraf Ghani and Bill Gates, founder of Microsoft, held a video conference call on Monday night to discuss the polio situation in Afghanistan.
During the meeting the Gates and Ghani expressed their concerns over the surge in polio cases in Afghanistan due to restrictions imposed by the Taliban in areas under their control, the Presidential Palace said in a statement.
“The two sides also held a comprehensive discussion on reforming the polio vaccine implementation process and increasing facilities in this regard,” the statement read.

Islamic Development Bank to Provide $60 Million to Pakistan for Polio Vaccine
Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) will provide financing of $60 million to Pakistan for the polio vaccine, including a $21 million ‘Lives and Livelihood Fund (LLF)’ grant.
Economic Affairs Division, on behalf of the government of Pakistan, signed a financing agreement with the representative of IsDB for the financing of $60 million.
This amount comprises a $39 million loan and a $21 million LLF grant by the IsDB. These funds will be utilized for polio vaccination.
Noor Ahmed, Secretary Economic Affairs Division, appreciated IsDB’s support to Pakistan for Polio Eradication Program (2019-2021). He said, “Today, we celebrate the long-standing partnership with the Islamic Development Bank. Taliban delegation visits Pakistan at invitation of Islamabad

A Taliban delegation, led by Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, the political deputy head of the Taliban’s office in Doha, is expected to meet with high-ranking Pakistani officials on Wednesday, after arriving in the country.

Among the officials the Taliban is expected to meet is Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan and Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi.

Among the issues expected to be focused on are problems relating to refugees, relaxation and facilitation of the movement of Afghan nationals to Pakistan, as well as problems Afghan traders face.

Afghanistan and Pakistan to work together to fight polio

Pakistan and Afghanistan will further strengthen cross-border cooperation next year by synchronizing campaigns to fight the polio virus.
According to Pakistan’s Polio Eradication Program, this was decided during a video conference on Tuesday between polio eradication teams in Afghanistan and in Pakistan.
The polio eradication teams of both countries agreed to continue sharing information and the synchronization of campaign dates in 2021 to tackle poliovirus transmission effectively, a statement issued by the Polio Eradication Program read.
“With intertwined communities and massive population movements between Pakistan and Afghanistan continued alignment of the vaccination schedule of both countries is critical to stop transmission of the virus,” the organization stated. ....
