Police officer gets frosted for 'liking' minister's birthday cake post

A Facebook post of Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri and his partner smiling with a football-themed birthday cake led to at least one police officer being summoned before a professional conduct board last month.  
 
Alex Schembri, the president of the Malta Police Association, told
Times of Malta that the unnamed officer was summoned before the Professional Standards board and told to expect a written warning. 
The unidentified officer is one of around a dozen officers that have faced some form of disciplinary procedure for engaging with politicians on social media in recent months, Schembri said.   ....

During Thursday’s Geneva City Council meeting Councilor Ken Camera (Ward 4) appeared to disclose potentially confidential personnel information during a live public meeting that was airing on YouTube.
Towards the end of the meeting, the issue of Council being blamed for voting to eliminate two probationary police officer positions as part of the 2021 budget process came up. Council engaged in a lengthy discussion on the issue. Towards the end of the discussion Camera called on City staff to simply inform the public that the probationary police officers had been terminated because they had failed the training program and had validated complaints against them. Camera was immediately cut off by City Manager Sage Gerling and Mayor Steve Valentino because Camera was violating personnel confidentiality rule ....

Police officers do not benefit from quarantine leave like other public sector employees if they test positive for COVID-19
The Police Officers Union has complained that officers are not being given quarantine leave like other public service employees, forcing them to use their sick leave when testing positive for COVID-19.
Posting to Facebook, the union said it had once again emailed the Prime Minister and Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri to ask that officers who tested positive for COVID-19 are given quarantine leave, like other government workers. ....
