PAZ Appeals Against Use Of Spikes By Police

By Mary Taruvinga THE Passengers Association of Zimbabwe (PAZ) has filed an appeal against a High Court judgment empowering the police to use spikes when dealing with private and public motor vehicles. PAZ, together with private taxi “mushikashika” driver Bernard Murizani had dragged Police Commissioner-General Godwin Matanga together with Police Service Commission and Home Affairs minister Kazembe Kazembe to court demanding a ban on the use of spike and tear gas. But High Court judge, Justice Owen Tagu dismissed the application noting that while the application was noble, “the court could not disempower the police from enforcing law and order as there were times when the use of spikes would prove necessary.”

Chinese Businessman Confronts Kazembe For Failing To Protect Him

By Mary Taruvinga A CHINESE businessman has dragged Home Affairs minister, Kazembe Kazembe to court after the top government official allegedly failed to protect him and his land from suspected war veterans who invaded the property in 2019. The businessman, Xifeng Li is suing the minister jointly with Police Commissioner General Godwin Matanga, Officer Commanding Harare province, Officer commanding Mbare district, Officer in Charge Southlea Park and Sheriff for Zimbabwe. Li made an application for an order compelling the respondents to provide security services to the Sheriff in the process of an order of the High Court granted in his favour for eviction of some war veterans who have settled in his land.
