CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - L.e.g.a.c.i. eats paid it forward Friday evening at the Charlottesville Police Station.
In honor of Police Appreciation Week, the nonprofit organization delivered fresh bread, slow smoked brisket, pulled pork loin, and crazy cranberry coleslaw to the police officers who were coming in for their night shift and ending their day shift.
“We wanted to show as much love as we could and pay it forward and make sure that the city knows that we’re behind them. We’re not perfect here, but we love where we are,” Steve Easton, a co-founder of L.e.g.a.c.i. eats, said.

DVIDS - News - KFOR military police celebrate National Police Appreciation Week through cooperative training

CAMP BONDSTEEL, Kosovo — Kosovo Force military police celebrated National Police Appreciation Week May 10-14. Maryland Army National Guard Soldiers with the 29th Military Police Company, assigned to KFOR’s Regional Command-East, hosted international MP forces from Italy, Poland, Austria and Switzerland at Camp Bondsteel in an unprecedented week of cooperative training.
National Police Appreciation Week was founded by former U.S. President John F. Kennedy in 1962 to celebrate the work of police officers across the country and pay special tribute to those who have lost their lives in the line of duty.
“[National Police Appreciation Week] is observed in the U.S. every year during this time period, and I wanted to include our NATO partners in this observation as well,” said Iowa Army National Guard Capt. Nate Hoeger, RC-E provost marshal. “I thought it would be a good opportunity to train with our police officer partners to strengthen the NATO police community here in KFOR.”

Exclusive: NYC Mayoral Candidate Curtis Sliwa on Times Square Shooting

10 May 2021
In response to a Saturday shooting in the heart of New York City in broad daylight that left two women and a child injured, NYC Republican mayoral candidate Curtis Sliwa called to refund the city’s police, increasing the force’s budget which was previously cut by Mayor Bill de Blasio.
In an exclusive statement made to Breitbart News on Monday, Sliwa lamented that only after a tragic shooting could Democrats see the need for more police.
“Did you notice that it took a child being shot in broad daylight in Times Square for Democrat politicians to acknowledge that we need more police?” he asked.

Sen. Todd Young chats about policing with sheriff, command staff

Shortages and solutions
Retter appreciated the senator taking time to listen and show that law enforcement agencies not only have local and state support, but federal support, as well. It made Retter feel like Young cares about law enforcement and will investigate solutions to their problems.
"I feel like he definitely does listen," Retter said. "He brought up something like the ammo shortage that he saw as a potential problem we would have."
Young suggested a federal program that allows military surpluses to be distributed to civilian organizations might help law enforcement survive the ammunition imbalance and maintain training standards.

Fennelly, Hecker Honored For Their Impacts On Maritime Community

March 1, 2021
By Frank McCormack
Global Maritime Ministries (GMM), a New Orleans-based organization that serves seafarers and inland mariners who call on ports in southeast Louisiana, along with the region’s broader maritime community, typically presents a pair of awards to local maritime leaders during its annual gala event. With ongoing restrictions due to COVID-19, though, Global Maritime Ministries Executive Director Philip Vandercook took the awards to the recipients’ places of work, bringing a personal touch to a season otherwise marked by virtual events and video calls.
GMM’s annual awards include the Crystal Lighthouse Award, which honors an individual’s leadership within the maritime community, and the John P. Vandercook Service Award, which recognizes humanitarian work among the region’s seafarers. The service award is named after Vandercook’s father, who began working with international seafarers at the Port of New Orleans in 1962 and founded an organization in 1965 that would later become Global Maritime Ministries.
