Vandalism at woods near Gifford investigated by police

Police are investigating the incident, which they have classed as vandalism.
The incident took place on April 11 or the following day at Bolton Muir Wood, near the junction with the B6368.
A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Given all the circumstances, a large-tracked vehicle – possibly an agricultural vehicle – appears to have been deliberately driven up a considerable distance onto the grass verge to damage the fence and sign.
“Police enquires are ongoing and anyone with any information is asked to call 101 quoting incident number 0683 of April 12.”

Bolton Wood owner trained with David Bellamy | East Lothian Courier

AN ANCIENT woodland which has been sold off in plots to private buyers is at the centre of a row after some new owners applied to build huts in it.
Bolton Muir Wood was bought by a company called Woodlands.co.uk from Lennoxlove Estate and lies on the outskirts of the villages of Bolton and Gifford in East Lothian.
But with plots costing between £40,000 and £69,000 each, concerns have been raised about a loss of access to locals and it being turned into a holiday park “by stealth”.
Local Democracy Reporter Marie Sharp met a few of the new owners of the wood to find out about the lure of the wilderness and their plans for its future.

Planning permission required for tool shed in Bolton Muir Wood

THE owner of a tool shed built in the middle of a forest has been ordered to apply for planning permission if it is to remain there.
The forestry shed was installed in Bolton Muir Wood, an ancient woodland which lies just over a mile to the west of Gifford.
However, it was only after it had been erected that applicant Consequent Ltd, a Dunbar-based management consultancy, asked East Lothian Council planners if it needed planning approval.
In a ruling issued by planners this week, they have raised an objection to the shed, ordering the firm to apply for retrospective planning permission.
