3,500 chickens suffocate to death in a lorry stuck at Tuas Second Link for 18 hours


Traffic jams at the Tuas Checkpoint have been happening the past two days due to Malaysian cargo drivers and other accompanying passengers entering Singapore having to undergo the Covid-19 testing, resulting in delays.
Sin Chew Daily reported it can take up to 13 hours to travel from the farms in Malaysia to the slaughterhouses in Singapore due to the recent traffic jams.
On. Jan. 28, the Poultry Merchant s Association chairman Ong Kian San disclosed to
Lianhe Zaobao that affected merchants complained that a lorry was caught in the jam at the Tuas Checkpoint for around 18 hours on Jan. 27.

SINGAPORE: More than 3,000 chickens died during their journey from Malaysia to Singapore over the last few days after cargo trucks experienced delays at the land entry checkpoints, said poultry importers interviewed by CNA.
Cargo truck drivers have been experiencing longer than usual delays at both Tuas and Woodlands checkpoints since last week after Singapore s Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) announced that COVID-19 antigen rapid testing would be progressively rolled out. Drivers would need to test negative before being allowed to enter Singapore.  ....
