(Reuters) - Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell said on Wednesday that the U.S. central bank will share an update on a bank liquidity rule in the “coming days.”
An exemption on the “supplemental leverage ratio” was put in place at the start of the coronavirus pandemic to encourage big banks to lend and support bond and short-term funding markets. The exemption, which reduced the amount of capital banks must hold against Treasurys and some deposits, is currently set to expire on March 31. ....

Since the pandemic, the extraordinary stimulus has only increased. After years and years of support, the Bank of Japan (BOJ) begins another 2-day meeting review on Wednesday. On Friday, they will release the results of their findings. Currently, the BOJ owns nearly $450 billion worth of Japanese ETFs. Stock index ETFs were mixed on Tuesday, with tech stocks and ETFs pushing higher as other sectors languished. Meanwhile, Federal Reserve officials commenced their March meeting.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average slipped from its recent highs on Tuesday by about 0.4%, while the S&P 500 added 0.1% to notch a new intraday high, before selling off somewhat. Meanwhile, the Nasdaq Composite led the three key benchmarks, climbing just more than 1%, led by major tech players like Microsoft, Apple, Alphabet, and Facebook.
“These are highly profitable businesses with excellent balance sheets,” said Angelo Kourkafas, an investment strategy analyst at Edward Jones. “They could be relative underperformers, but I have hard time, based on the valuations they’re trading at, imagining that they could have a severe or sustained pullback.” ....
