Chesapeake City Ecumenical Association begins new food distribution program, hopes to move to the old CCES space


CHESAPEAKE CITY — Every Monday morning, volunteers for the Chesapeake City Ecumenical Association (CCEA) building next to St. Basil Ukrainian Catholic Church work to prepare boxes full of canned food and other supplies for the community. The CCEA, a collaboration between 11 churches in Cecil County, is hoping to expand into the space occupied by the old Chesapeake City Elementary School (CCES), so the association bring together all of its ministries and programs under one roof.
The CCEA’s President, Deborah Forsythe, compared the organization to a tripod, made up of three general programming areas: feeding ministries that provide food aid, educational ministries, and health and wellness ministries. The CCEA currently pays rent to two different locations. ....

CCPS to have in-person classes twice a week.


ELKTON — On Feb. 22, Cecil County Public Schools (CCPS) will begin having in-person instruction two days a week. Wednesdays will remain entirely virtual, with students attending on Mondays and Tuesdays or Thursdays and Fridays.
Students who were part of the first 5% return group will remain in class for four days a week. Completely virtual education will remain an option for families who wish to stay at home.
Individual schools will distribute information about when specific students will attend class.
When making the decision, the district took into account community spread, students and staff reporting positive cases, and the Cecil County Health Department, who approved of the expansion of face-to-face learning, according to CCPS Public Information Officer Kelly Keeton. ....
