MELBOURNE, Fla. Catherine “Chick” Withers, 84, was unexpectedly called home Tuesday, April 6, 2021.
Catherine Cox was born Feb. 24, 1937, the youngest of five children born to William and Ollie Curry Cox. Catherine was born and raised in Youngstown, where she attended Covington Elementary School and graduated from The Rayen School in 1955.
Upon graduation, Catherine later moved to Cleveland. On July 21, 1962, she married Henry Lee Gray. From this union, Catherine’s first son, Ricky Bernard Gray, was born. Following divorce, Catherine moved back to Youngstown, finding employment at the General Electric Plant located on Market Street. She would faithfully work there 30-plus years before retiring. ....

YOUNGSTOWN On Wednesday, April 7, 2021, God dispatched his angels through the powers of the Holy Spirit to summon a good man, Bryan Keith Brown, 50, into his heavenly vineyard.
Mr. Brown was born March 23, 1971, in Youngstown, a son of Leroy Barnes and Margie Bryant. He went to South High School and was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He worked several years for Domestic Uniform Rental and in passing for Dinesol Plastics Inc. He loved to cut hair and was very good at fixing things. He was our comedian, and loved to make people laugh and smile.
He leaves his children, Victoria Brown, Stephon Cornwell and Bryan K. Brown Jr.; his mother, Margie (Ronnie) Bryant; his father; his siblings, Richard and Derek Brown, and Ronda Bryant; a grandson, Marcellus D. Wilkins; a special aunt who was like a mother to him, Deborah Vasquez; and a host of other family and friends. ....

HUBBARD Shirley M. Parm, 79, departed this life Monday April 5, 2021, at her residence.
Mrs. Parm was born Dec. 4, 1941, in Jamaica, West Indies, a daughter of Kenneth Hutchinson and Edna Ford.
During her marriage to Harold Parm, they adopted a son, Douglas. After a few years, Harold passed, and later she also adopted her daughter, Marva.
She was a seamstress who loved sewing and was employed for Weatherbee Coats Inc. and Towel Supply Company for many years. She was passionate about her job and skill set.
She not only thought about herself, but she was very thoughtful of others to the point where she sponsored many family members to the U.S. and would do anything for those in need. She was a no-nonsense kind of person who could make you laugh with her stories, but when she gives you that look, you knew exactly what time of day it is! ....

YOUNGSTOWN LaVonne Scott Peterson, 68, passed Monday, Feb. 22, 2021, at home, surrounded by her family.
She was the daughter of Walter and Gladys Scott. She married Aaron Peterson, her high school sweetheart, Aug. 3, 1991.
She graduated from East High School in 1970. She then earned her licensed practical nursing license from Albany Medical Center in Albany, N.Y. She returned to Youngstown, where she was employed as a nurse at Southside and Northside hospitals, retiring in 2011. LaVonne loved to travel and enjoyed watching her favorites teams, the Cleveland Indians and The Ohio State Buckeyes.
She enjoyed reading, audiobooks, playing cards, crocheting and baking. She loved her family dearly, including numerous nieces and nephews, and was always there to lend a helping hand in putting others before herself. ....
